Change: Diplomacy LARP
For my Change project, I organized an experimental LARP with members of CMU Roleplaying Games association. The purpose of the LARP was to try and understand better the barriers to communication, and how we communicate as people.
The participants were told they were diplomats of warring nations, who had only recently brokered peace. It was their job to negotiate the transfer of prisoners, looted artifacts, and other things important to each of their nations. However, they each had a pre-assigned language, and could only communicate using words from that list.
Over the course of the LARP, participants had to create new ways to communicate, learn each others’ languages, and reach settlements that were satisfying to all parties.
